Installation Overview

Each installation of Online Grades is going to be somewhat different. Online Grades and the required prerequisite software can be installed on many "flavors" of Linux as well as BSD, Apple OSX, and Windows based servers.

From a 10,000 foot view, here is how an install will proceed:

  1. Have the prerequisite programs installed, configured, and already working independently of beginning to install Online Grades.
  2. Download the latest released files version of Online Grades from http://www.OnlineGrades.org and unpack the file onto your server.
  3. Configure includes/config.php with the correct information for your environment.
  4. Create a database and database user for OG (this includes setting a password)
  5. Import into MySQL the Online Grades table definitions and beginning data, using phpMyAdmin or the command line.
  6. Log into the Online Grades admin interface with admin/admin at http://www.example.com/admin/.
  7. Immediately change your username and password for the admin account using the edit admin menu option.
  8. Add a staff member accounts.
  9. Train the staff and faculty.
  10. Publicize your Online Grades install and teachers and students/parents begin using it daily.
