Semi-Administrator Accounts
From Online Grades Documentation
Semi-admin accounts are suited for Online Grades Installations where you have multiple schools or multiple school districts using the same Online Grades instance (database). In these instances it was usually necessary to give someone at each school an admin account. This was somewhat risky since anyone with an admin account was able to make changes for not only their school but all the school set up in this Online Grades installation. For single school sites semi-admin accounts can still be useful to allow delegating setup and password resets for teachers, students and parents to a non-technical person without giving them full administrative access to Online Grades.
Semi-admin accounts are simply Faculty accounts with an extra privilege that allows them to log into a restricted version of the administrative interface. Since a faculty account is associated with a single school in Online Grades, these accounts are restricted so that the only changes that can be made are for this school.
To set up a faculty account as a semi-administrator, either create or edit an existing faculty member. There is a checkbox for "Semi-admin" which can be checked if you want this faculty member to be able to log into the admin interface and help administer Online Grades for their school.
Once a faculty user is set up as a semi-administrator they are able to log in using the administrator login screen. Once logged in they are given an abbreviated list of options on their Main Menu:
In addition, if they select an option like “Add Faculty”, they are restricted to adding or editing faculty for their school only. Though the School ID field is still a pull-down menu it is restricted so that the only option is their school:
Adding and editing student accounts works the same way; semi-administrators are restricted to working with students from their school.
Semi-administrators are able to create parent accounts and are able to associate parent accounts with students at their school if they know the school and the student id.
